As a translation agency in Switzerland we work with native-speaker professional translators across all 26 cantons – with local presence in Zurich, Basel, Berne, Geneva, Lucerne, St. Gallen, Fribourg and Winterthur. Every location works to the same process and the same binding fixed price – only the local point of contact changes.
Certified translations are produced by qualified professional translators with a certification note (Bestätigungsvermerk); on request they are notarised (notariell beglaubigt) and recognised throughout Switzerland. Switzerland is not an EU member state, so documents for use abroad often need an apostille as well – issued by the State Chancellery (Staatskanzlei) of the competent canton, never by FÜD.

Our Swiss head office is in Baar; Zurich also has a staffed office with a street address. In the other cities we work digitally and by post, with in-person hand-over of originals by appointment. The price, the certification and the process are identical everywhere.

More than 98% of translation jobs run entirely online: upload your document or send it by post, and we deliver the finished version – sealed, in the case of certified translations – throughout Switzerland by post. In-person submission in Zurich is possible by appointment; the seven other cities work by appointment and post only, without a public counter.
Recognised throughout Switzerland
Certified translations are produced by qualified professional translators; on request they are notarised and recognised throughout Switzerland, whichever canton the translation was produced in. For use abroad, the competent cantonal State Chancellery adds the apostille – we also translate the apostille note.

Which authority is responsible – and where?
Certification and the apostille are regulated at cantonal level. Switzerland is not an EU member state, so an apostille is often required for documents going abroad; the competent cantonal State Chancellery issues it, always on the original – never on the translation, and never through FÜD.

Order for the apostille
If the receiving body requires an apostille, it belongs before the translation: it is affixed to the original document first by the competent cantonal State Chancellery, and we then translate the document including the apostille note.
If you are unsure which canton is competent for your document, we review your case and name the right authority. FÜD does not issue apostilles – issuing one always stays with the cantonal authority.
