Afghanistan uses the Solar Hijri (Jalali) calendar, so a date such as ۱۴۰۲ must be converted to the Gregorian year — a mechanical reading misstates it. Dari also uses Eastern Arabic numerals (۰ ۱ ۲ ۳).

Dari is a variety of Persian, closely related to Iranian Farsi and Tajik, but with its own official vocabulary and document conventions — it must not be silently rendered as Iranian Farsi. Because short vowels are unwritten and several transliteration systems exist, a name can be spelled many ways in Latin script, and only the passport spelling is accepted by a Swiss authority. Why “Afghan Farsi” won’t do here
