Languages
As a translation service, we translate in both directions; every job goes to a native-speaker specialist who gets the regional variant right – for public authorities, a court-sworn translator produces the certified version. The strongest demand in Graz is for English, Slovenian, Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Hungarian, Turkish and Italian.
Certification, apostille & competent authorities
Graz lies in the federal state of Styria. Who is responsible for certification and the apostille depends on the type of document. An apostille is issued solely by the competent authority; FÜD does not issue apostilles. We advise whether your destination country requires an apostille and deliver the certified translation in a form the receiving body will recognise.
| Matter | Competent authority for Graz | What FÜD handles / what to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Certified translation | Fachübersetzungsdienst Graz Court-sworn & certified translator (recognised throughout Austria) | We produce the certified translation with a round stamp and certification clause – recognised in Austria under Section 14 SDG without any further legalisation. |
| Apostille for judicial & notarial documents | President of the Regional Court for Civil Matters Graz Marburger Kai 49, 8010 Graz | Applies to, e.g., commercial-register extracts, notarial deeds and court rulings. We translate the document including the apostille note. FÜD does not issue the apostille. |
| Apostille for other administrative & civil-status documents | Office of the Styrian Provincial Government (Amt der Steiermärkischen Landesregierung) | We tell you whether an apostille is required and translate the apostille note along with the document. |
| Federal documents & certification for use abroad | BMEIA – Office for Consular Legalisation, Vienna | For documents issued by federal authorities we deliver the translation in a form the receiving body will recognise, including the note. |
| Civil-status documents (birth, marriage, death) | Graz Register Office (Standesamt Graz) | We produce the certified translation of the certificate; the international (multilingual) certificate is issued directly by the register office. |
| Recognition of foreign diplomas & qualifications | The competent Austrian body (e.g. ENIC NARIC Austria/BMBWF, a chamber, a university) | Certified translation for the evaluation or recognition procedure; the competent body decides on equivalence. |
If the receiving body requires an apostille, it belongs before the translation: it is affixed to the original document first, and we then translate the document including the apostille note – so the certified translation remains fully usable in the destination country. Issuing it stays with the competent authority, not with FÜD.

Career & training
The path into the profession is rarely a straight line: what counts is native-level language skill, solid subject knowledge in a field such as law, medicine or technology – and, for certified translations, court-sworn appointment and certification under Section 14 SDG, combined with entry in the register of certified court experts and interpreters kept by the ÖVGD (the Austrian association of court-certified interpreters). Anyone wanting to lay the foundations in Graz and Styria will find suitable options locally.
